Writing Picture Books | Kids Yoga Stories

Writing picture books.

Cassandra here – your Kids Yoga Stories Community Manager!

I’ve got a question for you.

Have you ever had a story idea bouncing around in your head, just itching to be shared with the world?

Let me be the first to tell you, I’ve been there!

As a former elementary educator and lifelong story lover, I always dreamed of writing and publishing my own children’s picture books.

But when I finally decided to take the plunge…

Oh boy, did I find myself in a whirlwind of questions!

Maybe you’re in the same boat, wondering things like:

How on earth do I turn my wild ideas into a real-life book?

How do I sneak important, meaningful messages into a fun story?

Should I go with traditional publishing or try my hand at self-publishing?

Where do I find an illustrator who can bring my characters to life the way I envision?

Once it’s published, how do I get my book into the hands of eager little readers?

Trust me, I get it!

These questions were racing in my mind on the daily, sometimes leaving me feeling completely overwhelmed – almost too overwhelmed to move forward.

But I did it!

I spent countless hours googling, but often found myself drowning in conflicting advice or tips that just didn’t quite fit my situation.

But here’s the good news!

As I continued on this wild ride, I was reminded (and extremely grateful) that Kids Yoga Stories had already done the research for me!

Our amazing founder, Giselle, has recently interviewed some seriously awesome authors and young activists who’ve successfully navigated the crazy world of children’s book publishing.

I’m over-the-moon excited to share that my very own children’s picture book, The Tree Spot, is now out in the world! It’s a heartwarming tale about a little girl named Willow who finds peace from the busy city by escaping to a hidden spot in a nearby forest. Inspired by my own experiences, The Tree Spot encourages children of all ages to fall in love with their environment, cultivate kindness, and find their own special connection with the natural world. It illustrates the power nature has to heal and reminds us that we, too, are a part of nature. If you’re in the mood for a story that’ll make you want to kick off your shoes and climb a tree (or at least hug one), join me as I read The Tree Spot aloud and give you a special glimpse into Willow’s world right here.
