Scaravelli Inspired Yoga Events in April

Treat yourself to yoga – you’re worth it!

This Scaravelli inspired yoga approach is gentle, yet demanding. We work deeply, but with intelligence, so that the practice raises our awareness, helping us to make sustainable, healthy and nourishing choices, which will affect us and those closest to us, at all levels – physical, psychological and emotional.
Scaravelli inspired yoga, is particularly helpful for those who are working with postural issues, lower back pain, stiff necks and shoulders and for those who are stressed, and need some space to learn how to deeply relax.

I’m now teaching most of my Scaravelli inspired yoga classes online via Zoom.

I am enormously grateful that wherever we are in the world, the internet enables us to maintain our connection and continue to breathe, move and practice together. I look forward to seeing you in class again soon.

Breathing and Pranayama

Would you like to explore your breathing in more depth?
We all know that breathing is a central element of yoga practice, but did you also know it’s key to regulation of your nervous system?  Following Covid, there’s more scientific research than ever showing how regular breathing practices can help lower resting blood pressure, reduce stress and anxiety.
In this weekly Breathing and Pranayama class, we’ll spend 30 mins exploring our breathing and how it affects us.  We’ll look at simple breath awareness, as well as more structured forms of pranayama and introduce contemporary approaches to supporting those working with Chronic Fatigue, Long Covid and other conditions.
.
Regular breathing practice improves our relaxation response leading to:
• lowered blood pressure and heart rate
• reduced levels of stress hormones in the blood
• reduced lactic acid build-up in muscle tissue
• balanced levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood
• improved immune system functioning
• increased physical energy
• increased feelings of calm and wellbeing

Book Now via MFML

Have you ever wondered why one side of your body is easier to access than the other in your yoga practice?
Or why some “hip openers” are more challenging than others?

It’s all related to the balance of your pelvis, and how the web of ligaments, tendons and muscle tissues in this key area work together to support and connect your hips, lower back and legs.
Join Catherine for this practical workshop to explore how we can adapt our yoga practice to support pelvic balance.
.
What’s included:
• An overview of the structure and function of the pelvis
• A look at the links between the pelvis and spine
• Practical work to explore how relaxation of the pelvis can relieve lower back issues
• Discussion of “hip openers”.  Are they really beneficial?
• The relationship between pelvic balance and the sacro-iliac joints
• Why tucking your tailbone may be helpful – or not!
• Understanding that pelvic balance goes far beyond pelvic floor exercises
.
This workshop is for you if:
• You’d like to understand more about the anatomy and function of your pelvis
• You’re a teacher and would like to find some new more functional ways of working with the pelvis during class
• You’ve realised that too much hip opening has stopped being helpful and you have a sneaky suspicion that maybe there’s another, more healthy way of working with the pelvis
• You’re on the hypermobile spectrum or working with peri-menopause or menopause and would like to explore a more intelligent approach to your joints, especially the hips
• To discuss how we can offer individual, personalised suggestions, to help our students and ourselves access healthy, beneficial movement
• You’d like to understand how fixations in the pelvis can affect our entire body
• You’d like to explore how yoga can help us find balance and stability through our pelvis
.
Together, we’ll learn:
• how yoga can help us find balance and stability through our pelvis
• how fixations in the pelvis can affect our entire body
• why not all hips need opening (and why stability is helpful)
• the effect of pelvic balance on your sacro-iliac joints
• why tucking your tailbone may be helpful – or not!
• that pelvic balance goes far beyond pelvic floor exercises
• how relaxing your pelvis can help relieve lower back issues
• the delicate link between our pelvis and our psyche

Continuing Professional Development
Each yoga event provides 1 CPD point per hour of practice, depending on your awarding body.

Pelvic Balance, Part 2
Emotional Centre
Emotions, Nervous System & Common Issues

There are two parts to the Pelvic Balance series.
Part 1 looks at the structure, function and physical connections related to the pelvis and includes some practical work to help find physical balance and soothe stiff lower backs.
In Part 2, we explore the pelvis as emotional centre, looking at some more complex but common issues, including sacro-iliac sensitivity, sciatica, labral tears and the relationship between the pelvis, our emotions and nervous system.

Over the last few years, we’ve been busy recording and editing all my yoga workshops and courses to make them available in digital form, so you can download and keep them forever.
We’ve also recorded some of my regular yoga classes to offer you the convenience of practicing whenever and wherever you are.
If you need some extra rest, then maybe Yoga Nidra is more your thing.  Make yourself comfy, wrap up in blankets and follow my voice as we travel through magical landscapes, dive deep into ourselves and explore the liminal space between waking and sleeping.
Whether you’d like to practice breathing, or learn more about anatomy and how our bodies are affected by our yoga practice, it’s all here for you.  If you’d like to dive in deeper, you’ll find the workshops I taught with Gary Carter and if, like me, you are working with lower back issues, join me live, or connect with the recordings of my Yoga for Back Care Course.
I do hope you find something here that’s helpful and nourishing and look forward to hear about your experience.  Oh, and if there’s something you’d like to hear more about, let me know – I’d love to hear from you.
All videos are recorded into the MP4 format, one of the most common file formats used on the internet today.

Yoga Teacher Training – Book Now Online

Intelligent Yoga Teacher Training (IYTT) is unique amongst teacher training courses.  We offer an incisive, thoughtful and intelligent approach to yoga teacher training, driven by the most current scientific developments in anatomy and movement research.
Delivered by an elite group of senior yoga teachers at the top of their field, IYTT offers a spacious, immersive modular structure which provides time and space for profound learning, integration and growth.  Each of the teaching team draws on decades of practical experience of yoga, including particularly the work of Vanda Scaravelli and somatic, embodied practices.
Described by some as radical and provocative, this approach to practice demands a fundamental shift in our practice and teaching.

This yoga teacher training course with Catherine has been a fabulous experience, a huge learning curve and worth much more than the money invested in it.  I really appreciate the breadth of the course, which incorporates a thorough history of the philosophy of yoga, essential anatomy and physiology and a well-structured approach to posture work, exploring asana in depth for personal practice while progressively developing our teaching skills in small and large group settings.
Our ttc class has created a very supportive and friendly atmosphere while Catherine is an outstanding role model for intuitive and compassionate teachers; she has offered excellent feedback and encouragement at every stage.  The format of the course has allowed me time to revise and assimilate the learning through well matched assessments and to have the confidence and knowledge to begin to practice teaching yoga, which has been a joy.  It is a journey of self-discovery, at times intense, but always rewarding.  I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute and cannot recommend this yoga teacher training in London enough.
Karen McCoss

Throughout the course, we’ll investigate how our bodies move, how we respond to stimuli and how we can cultivate an atmosphere of authentic enquiry and exploration.  We’ll support and encourage you to gain a clear understanding of how you personally engage with yourself through movement and how you can use that knowledge to create new, healthier approaches to living and moving, for yourself and your students.

Meet the Team
Catherine Annis – Course Leader and Core Teacher
Originally a professional dancer, Catherine has been practicing for almost 40 years, and teaching since 2004. She’s been teaching yoga teachers since 2011 and is responsible for creating the iytt. She is your core yoga trainer and mentor.
Gary Carter – Myofascial Connections
Gary has been teaching and practicing yoga and other movement practices for over 25 years. What he doesn’t know about yoga and the body simply isn’t worth thinking about. We’re delighted to welcome him to share his understanding and expertise about anatomy, particularly in relation to our understanding of the fascia and connective tissues.
Neville Cregan – Philosophy
Nev is interested in cultural appropriation and exploring whether modern Western scientific knowledge is changing our approach to yoga. He’s a yoga teacher and massage therapist too, and will be helping us delve into the mysteries of yoga philosophy through his down-to-earth and accessible approach.
Jody Barber – Introduction to Anatomy
Jody is a Chartered Physiotherapist of 26 years with a special interest in treating people with a neurological diagnosis.  She’ll be introducing us to anatomy basics, so you’re sure to understand your asana from your elbow.

Why is Accreditation Important?
Yoga teaching has evolved, becoming more professional and organised and teachers are now required to hold valid insurance before yoga studios will employ them.
Originally, yoga was passed from teacher to student, on a 1:1 basis.  Students would study for many years with their teacher, only beginning to teach once they had their teacher’s blessing.  The teaching of yoga has changed, and it’s now much less common for people to work privately.  We are more likely to attend class with several other students and the world of teaching online yoga has opened up.
If you really want to follow your dream and begin sharing your love for yoga, it’s important to find a course which resonates with you, and which you know will help you develop the skills and experience to be the best teacher you can.
It’s also essential to demonstrate to future employers that you have met certain criteria and that you are able to teach safe, intelligent and thoughtful classes.  With IYTT, we believe we have created one of the best, most thoughtful and inspiring yoga teacher training courses and we look forward to practising and exploring yoga together.
Finding a course which is registered with a reputable and established accreditation board is essential.
Accreditation & Certification
The IYTT diploma is fully accredited and certified by Yoga Alliance Professionals (UK).
Upon successful graduation from the course, IYTT trainees will receive the following accreditation and certification:
* Intelligent Yoga Teacher Training Diploma certificate
* Eligibility to join Yoga Alliance Professionals at Associate – Level 1 status
